As part of my geology degree, I have to go on summer field trips. This summer we went to the Almería region of Southern Spain and stayed in the Urra Field Centre, just outside of Sorbas.
15th September 2012.
Today we went to the location known as 'Mini Hollywood'; they film spaghetti westerns in the area and it is obvious why.
The rocks we were here to see are part of the Tabernas Basin. They are sands, muds and conglomerates that cover the metamorphic basement rocks. It was a bit of a clamber from the drop off point up to the canyon we went to study, but with geology, there are very few easily accessible places, so it seems.
