Wildschönau translates from German as "wild beautiful valley". The Wildschönau valley in the Tirol region of Austria really is quite pretty. We stayed in the village of Niederau, the first village of the valley and travelled up and down the valley every day.
This photo was taken from the top of Mackbachjock looking towards the Kaiser Mountains. You can really get some spectacular views in the Alps and this was one of the best I had all trip I think.
The name for this photo comes from the awesome piece of music by Two Steps From Hell [link] and also from the face that the Alps are ever changing. They are tectonically active and are still growing, if only by 1mm a year. If it wasn't for the processes of erosion, the Alps would be as tall as the Himalayas.
I know that feeling. I used to live in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and looking down at the landscape from the throat of the world is an intense feeling.
it would be cool to keep going to the same place at different times of year to see how it changes. unfortunately i live in a comparatively boring part of the world where grey seems to be the predominant colour. though at least the trees are providing some welcome colour at the minute.
the sky seems really big when you're stood on top of a mountain...
